Refugees
The Icelandic Refugee Board was established on 8th February 1995. The present board operates in accordance with a government resolution of 12th November 1999, when it was decided to appoint the board for the next four years in the same way as had been done in 1995, and also to investigate ways of establishing a clearer framework for the functions of the board during its current term.
According to the government resolution, the main role of the Icelandic Refugee Board is to "make proposals to the government on an overall policy and structure for the reception of refugees, supervise the reception of refugees and give comments on individual matters as requested". The resolution also states that the board is required to give the government a report on its operations every year.
